Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

Terra is a USA based company specializing in electric motorcycles. We do final assembly in our warehouse in Colorado, where we also do full R&D on the county roads and off-road trails of the Rocky Mountains and SW desert.

We offer a 30-day return policy. Bikes must have less than 50 miles on them for a full refund. Customer is responsible for shipping costs.

We strive to be the most accessible electric motorcycle on the market. What that means is we designed our bikes to use commonplace parts – from standard axle sizes to common motorcycle parts. If you break it or want to upgrade it, you can. On top of that, we build our bikes to last – we use metal, not plastic.

Yes, of course. We warehouse and provide demo rides out of our shop in New Castle, Colorado. We also have a growing dealership network all across the country. Reach out for more ways to test and feel a TERRA Prime.

We are based in Western Colorado — New Castle to be exact. Hit us up to stop by for a demo ride: we have fast county roads and technical desert trails right out our back door. We also have an extensive dealership network, although, depending on the dealership, a demo might not be permitted.

ABOUT THE BIKE

The TERRA Prime averages 70 miles on a single charge. As a day to day commuter, accelerating hard, and not holding back, 50 miles is easily achieved. In eco mode, riding sub 28mph, surpassing 80 miles is also attainable.

We currently have 2 chargers: a 10amp and a 15amp. The 10 amp charger takes roughly 6hrs to charge 0 to full; and the 15amp charger takes 4hrs.

Terra’s frame is constructed of 4130 Chromoly steel. The "battery box" is constructed of aluminum 5052 and only has 2 ingresses, making it extremely water resistant. The “faux” tank is constructed out of 5052 as well. We chose to use minimal (really no) plastic because we wanted our bikes to last, for as long as humanly possible.

Terra’s suspension is built around a linear suspension design, ideal for dual-sport purposes. The front is a 224mm spring/oil fork and the rear wheel travel is 203mm, built on a spring/oil shock absorber. The suspension is non-proprietary, so replacement is as easy as going to your motorcycle or dirtbike shop.

The wheelbase length is 84”. This is just long enough to fit most tray style mountain bike racks. We suggest using a motorcycle rack or a heavy duty tray style mountain bike rack, such as a 1UP heavy duty.

Terra comes equipped with 18”x3.5” all-terrain KENDA K262 tires. They are mounted on 18”x2.15” wheels.

The TERRA Prime GVWR is close to 1000lbs.

Terra only weighs 200lbs out of the door in the motorcycle configuration.

Terra comes equipped w/ a large seat, but no rear pegs. You can bring a passenger for short journeys, but right now, it is not encouraged to ride w/ a passenger. A rear seat to mount onto the rear rack is in the works... stay tuned!

Yes, the “faux tank” is a storage compartment. It is large enough for small items, such as riding gloves, a ball cap, a burrito, etc. This is also how you access the master power switch. Our rear rack system can support up to 300lbs as well.

LEGAL AND PURCHASING

Yes, of course. Terra comes w/ a limited 3 year warranty on the frame, and a 1 year warranty on the componentry (motor, battery, etc).

Yes, we currently offer financing through Synchrony. The application can be found under the credit card section on the checkout page.

The TERRA Prime is street legal. It comes with a VIN and MCO, and is classed as an M1 motorcycle.

An M1 motorcycle endorsement is needed to ride the motorcycle package on DOT streets.

Wherever you can drive your car, you can ride a Terra. That said, a Terra Prime's top speed is 70mph, so freeway travel is strongly discouraged. Always consult your local laws for on-road legal travel use. Off-road use is restricted to OHV travel. A Terra Prime is NOT a pedal bike (mountain bike), so you cannot ride it on bike trails.

MAINTENANCE

Yes, of course. We recommend installing studs for ice. And we strongly recommend charging it indoors — in fact, the BMS won't allow you to charge the battery if it's too cold out.

Electric motors do not need servicing. The chain will need to be kept at the correct tension, cleaned and lubricated. Brake pads and tires will need to be replaced when they wear down.

If it's simple, your local motorcycle shop. Otherwise, email us, and we'll work with you to source the replacement parts: support@terramotorcycles.com.

Always make sure that the bike is standing firmly before washing and don’t forget to turn the bike off. Never use a pressure washer or a water hose in order to clean the bike. It’s recommended to use pressurized air, a bucket of water together with a cloth and brush. When cleaning the chain, use a chain cleaner and scrub the chain with a brush. Repeat the cleaning before drying the chain and apply chain lube.

The TERRA Prims is rated IP65, but that does not mean they can be submerged in water. They can withstand rain, snow, and a good amount of water crossings, but they are electrical, so heavy water exposure can penetrate the electrical components. Clear excess water exposure will void your warranty.

We built Terra with you in mind. Most parts are commonplace and can be found online or at your local motorcycle shop. But for the quickest and easiest replacement, please email us at: support@terramotorcycles.com

We recommend using a motorcycle specific lock. It is light enough to pick up, so always lock it to something sturdy.

BATTERY AND CHARGING

Terra uses a 72V battery. We currently only offer 1 battery size: 60ah (5.1kwh).

Yes, but we built the bike to be used for long-distance travel, as well as creating a waterproof environment for the electronics. The side panel of the battery box is fastened using 10 bolts. Remove this panel, and the battery will be exposed. Never remove this panel without first switching off the master kill switch.

Terra’s battery is sealed in the aluminum battery box and is charged via a port near the rear suspension. The charger plugs into any 110V AC outlet.

Terra comes with a 110V charger. Depending on your battery size, the charger will be either a 15amp charger or 10amp charger. NEVER use an off-brand charger. This is danger, can cause fires, and will void your warranty.

Yes, you can certainly replace the battery. We built a modular battery holder inside the “battery box” which can adjust to different size batteries. As technology changes and batteries become better, we want you to have the ability to upgrade as necessary. All our batteries will be backward compatible.

With any Li-Ion battery, extreme temperatures affect the battery in different ways. For most temperatures, you can ride the bike as you see fit. Where the caution comes to play is charging. We recommend charging your bike inside at room temperature. If it’s too cold or hot, there are safety measures built into the bike that won’t allow it to be charged.

We recommend maintaining your bike’s battery charge between 50-75% and turn the master switch off. If you can, you should remove your battery and store it in a climate controlled environmnet.

Some racks, but weight and length are the big concerns here. If you plan on using a mountain bike rack, we recommend using a 1Up Heavy Duty or equivalent heavy duty bike rack. We strongly recommend using a motorcycle rack if you plan on doing off-road driving or long-distance freeway driving.
